Merc traders complete move
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is marking a milestone in its 110-year history as the last floor traders wrap up business and move to the Chicago Board of Trade.
Starting Monday, all open-outcry trading of the CME Corporation-owned Merc will take place five blocks away in the ornate Chicago Board of Trade building.
The move is a result of CME's acquisition last year of the Board of Trade. The operations of the two longtime rival exchanges were combined.
More than 80 percent of trading now is done electronically, but floor trading remains an integral part of operations.
The Merc building in downtown Chicago will continue to house CME's administrative offices.
