Common sense lacking from rules

I have been driving for 68 years and know when to stop and when to go.

So why in my fully awake and lucid mind have to come to a full stop at an exact spot even if there is no traffic within eyesight?

Likewise for a right turn on red. Does one or two feet in front of or back of the white line make that much difference? Who are these ego driving people forcing this nonsense upon us?
