Reds send reliever Brower to Cubs

Right-hander Jim Brower was traded Friday from the Cincinnati Reds to the Chicago Cubs for cash.

Brower, a middle reliever, is 0-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 17 relief appearances this season at Class AAA Louisville. He has posted 28 strikeouts with 11 walks in his 25 innings.

Brower has pitched for eight major-league teams, including a 3ˆº-inning stint with the New York Yankees last year. His best seasons came in San Francisco, where he threw 193 innings during 2003-04 and posted a 3.64 ERA.

Brower will be sent to the minors for work, Cubs officials said.
