Skeletons of 2 babies found in woman's car
ROCKFORD -- Winnebago County authorities say they have found the skeletal remains of two infants in a car owned by a rural Rockton woman accused of leaving her newborn daughter to die of exposure in December 2004.
Sheriff Dick Meyers, State's Attorney Joe Bruscato and Coroner Sue Fiduccia said Thursday the remains were found in two packages discovered a day earlier in a car impounded from 28-year-old Katie L. Stockton a year ago.
Fiduccia said the remains will be examined to determine sex, age, and cause of death.
Stockton was arrested Aug. 5 in Merriam, Kan., by FBI fugitive task force members.
Authorities began searching for Stockton after police recently reopened the case of a newborn baby found dead in Winnebago County in 2004. Rockford residents named the infant Baby Crystal and organized her funeral.
