Lisle plans DUI check:
Lisle Police will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint the evening of Aug. 21 along Ogden Avenue. Officers will be targeting suspected drunken drivers and other traffic safety concerns, including seat belt compliance. The checkpoint is funded by federal grants distributed by the Illinois Department of Transportation's traffic safety division. Police said they will maintain a heightened traffic patrol presence through Labor Day weekend.
Naperville police honored:
The Naperville Police Department captured second place in the statewide 2008-09 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The program, coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, recognizes law enforcement agencies for their efforts in addressing traffic and highway safety issues. Naperville police also learned they won second place in the 2008 National Law Enforcement Challenge for traffic safety.
Heritage Y snares grant:
The Heritage YMCA Group, with branches in Aurora, Oswego and Naperville, has received a $9,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will be used by the Oswego Family YMCA to make capital improvements to its "All New Oswego Family YMCA" scheduled to open Aug. 31 in the Oswego 308 Center at 160 E. Washington St., Oswego. The new facility covers 22,000 square feet and will replace the existing Oswego Y facility in the Mason Square Shopping Center.
Naperville breaks ground:
Naperville officials will break ground on Segment 4 of the DuPage River Trail at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at the DuPage River Sports Complex, 2807 S. Washington St. The multiuse paved trail is expected to be open next summer. The 2.5-mile extension will begin near 87th Street and the West Branch DuPage River, where the existing trail currently stops, and continue south along Ring Road and Knoch Knolls Road and winding through Knoch Knolls Park and the DuPage River Sports Complex.
