False alarms targeted

The city of Batavia has updated its fine structure for false alarm transmissions. Businesses and residents who have alarm systems are required to obtain a city free permit annually. The police and fire departments will respond twice during a rolling 12-month period to false alarms without charging a fine. After that, fines progress from $50 for the third, $100 for the fourth, $200 for fifth through ninth and $300 for the 10th. Failure to obtain a permit is a $200 fine. For details, call Kathy Wilson at the police department, (630) 454-2500.
