Record-setting numbers for Tour of Elk Grove
Officials for the 4th annual Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove say the nation's largest three-day competitive cycling event showed an increase in both number of riders and weekend spectators. According to Tour promoters, more than 1,100 riders competed in races, which included riders from more that 25 states and 10 countries. They estimated that more than 25,000 spectators viewed races and attended community events that included two evenings of block parties with music, food and fireworks.
"This year's Tour of Elk Grove exceeded our wildest expectations. We've firmly established ourselves as the nation's premier and largest competitive cycling event with both domestic and international cyclists as well as cycling fans," said Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson.
The total prize money for all Tour of Elk Grove races over the weekend was nearly $200,000.
