DuPage County briefs
Oak Brook tests hydrants
Oak Brook will conduct flow tests on its fire hydrants from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 24-28 in the area between Spring Road and Route 83, south of 31st Street. Officials say the tests, which may cause temporary discoloration of water, are needed to determine the quantity of water available for fire protection. Residents should allow faucets to run for five to 10 minutes to clear the discoloration. For details, call the fire department at (630) 368-5201.
Troopers plan crackdown
State troopers will conduct special patrols from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7 to crack down on drunken driving in DuPage, Cook, Kane, Will and McHenry counties. Police say they will use saturation patrols that focus on preventing, detecting and taking enforcement action on impaired motorists and those illegally transporting or consuming alcohol or other drugs.
