Quinn to act on Uof I trustees next week

Gov. Pat Quinn says he'll act with "finality" next week on issues surrounding the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

A state commission recommended in a report last week that all trustees voluntarily resign. Quinn also has asked the trustees to submit their resignations to him. On Thursday, Quinn said the issue would be answered "with finality next week."

The governor appointed the commission to investigate allegations the school's Urbana-Champaign campus maintained a list of politically connected applicants and admitted some over better-qualified candidates. So far, three trustees have resigned and six have not. Trustee Frances Carroll has said she will not step down.

This week, Quinn asked the trustees to resign and do what's best for the university.
