U of I panel says trustees should submit resignations

A panel investigating the role clout played in UofI admissions is recommending that all trustees voluntarily submit their resignations and that Gov. Pat Quinn decide which ones to accept.

That recommendation came in the Illinois Admissions Review Commission's final report released Thursday.

It also recommends that new trustees conduct a review of the university's president, the chancellor of the Champaign campus and other university administrators.

Quinn has said he'll move quickly on any recommendations.

The commission was created after revelations the university maintained a list of politically connected applicants and admitted some over better-qualified candidates.

Two trustees, Niranjan Shah and Lawrence Eppley, have already quit.
