DH view of merging traffic all wrong
Your "view" on the rights and wrongs of merging traffic from two lanes to one is, to say the least, surprising. There are times when those in the merging lane don't realize immediately that they need to move into the left lane.
But for those who sneak ahead using the right lane? Only because of safety reasons would I agree that playing "blocker" by straddling the center line is a bad idea. Selfish? Selfish is when 25 cars have dutifully moved into the left lane and other cars move to the front of the line by using the right lane.
Blocking rude drivers from "sneaking in" slows down the merge? That's a ridiculous statement. Whether or not drivers use the right lane to sneak to the front the same number of cars will move single file down the highway at the same rate of speed.
If your view is logical, then whenever people are waiting in a single-file line that line would move ahead more efficiently if other people would walk to the front of the line and cut in between those standing in the single file "lane." Your point of view doesn't make any sense to me.
