Metea Valley sophomore accused of cutting another student during fight

A 16-year-old sophomore at Metea Valley High School has been charged with aggravated battery in a public place after cutting a student during a fight Wednesday in a bathroom at the Aurora school, authorities said Thursday.

The suspect had heard the victim had stolen a vape pen him, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office, and the two students entered a bathroom, where they began fighting. The suspect pulled out a pocketknife and cut the victim on the neck, abdomen and hands, authorities said.

The victim was treated and released at a hospital.

The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents on home detention as he awaits his next court appearance on June 9.
