Worker killed in downstate factory

EAST ALTON -- Madison County's coroner is investigating a weekend accident that killed a worker at a factory in the southwestern Illinois town of East Alton.
The coroner's office says 41-year-old Michael Niswander of Cottage Hills died at a hospital shortly after the accident Saturday morning at Olin Brass.
Investigators say Niswander was struck in the chest by a piece of heavy machinery.
The coroner's office says an autopsy was planned, and toxicology tests will be performed.
The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration also has been notified.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.
