Canadians wouldn't trade health care

I have been, as have many Americans, watching the government debate possible reform of our national health care system. I believe that our health care system is broken.

My number one issue in the 2008 election was our health care system and the economic crisis. These issues are very related. We can no longer afford to pay the huge premiums that private insurance companies and other private sector entrepreneurs add to health care costs.

My family is fortunate and has health insurance, but an alarming number of my friends and family are not insured or have lost medical insurance. Despite our insurance I live with fear of a catastrophic illness depleting our savings and leaving us bankrupt.

My husband and I have several friends who live in Canada. Although they agree that their system is not perfect, they all agree that they would never trade places with us and our system. For all these reasons I believe Congress must pass real health care reform in 2009.
