Crane next to hospital catches fire

A crane caught fire next to a Zion hospital Thursday but was contained, officials said.

Zion Fire Batallion Chief Eric Troy said his department received a call around 1:15 p.m. that a crane next to Midwestern Regional Medical Center had caught fire.

Troy said crews extinguished the fire quickly. The hospital sustained no smoke damage. No one was injured.

A fuel leak from the crane was contained, Troy said.

The Zion department was assisted by the Beach Park, Newport and Winthrop Harbor fire departments.
