Ex-teacher sentenced for having sex with student
EDWARDSVILLE -- A former southwestern Illinois teacher must serve two years of probation and register as a sex offender as her sentence for having sex with one of her students.
Thirty-year-old Kasey Johnes also was fined $500 and ordered to get counseling after she pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped a more serious charge of aggravated sexual assault.
Madison County prosecutors charged Johnes in April. She was fired as a health teacher after the allegations surfaced.
Investigators say Johnes had a five-month sexual relationship with the student that ended in February. The student was 17 at the time.
She's also prohibited from having contact with the victim.
