York principal leaving for post at Lake Zurich High School

The principal at Elmhurst's York High School, Erin DeLuga, is expected to be named Wednesday to the same post at Lake Zurich High School.

DeLuga has been York's top administrator for the past four years and will continue in that role through the end of the school year. She'll begin work in Lake Zurich on July 1.

Before coming to York, DeLuga served as associate principal of instruction at Wheeling High School and head of the English and fine arts division at Prospect High School.

Elmhurst Unit District 205 officials on Tuesday said they'll launch a search for a new principal as soon as DeLuga's appointment is finalized.

Superintendent David Moyer said DeLuga was instrumental in developing "more inclusive learning environments and increased access to rigorous curriculum, the business incubator program, blended learning opportunities, and the addition of Project Lead the Way."

"I have had an incredible opportunity to lead in a school and community that is extraordinary," DeLuga said in a written statement. "Although I leave with an extremely heavy heart, this new opportunity poses new challenges and is the right fit for my family at this time."

She will replace Principal Robert Vossel, who will step down June 30 at Lake Zurich after submitting his resignation in November.

Administrators in Lake Zurich Unit District 95 began their search for a new principal that same month in a process that included hiring an external search firm, gathering feedback from community surveys, developing a principal profile and interviewing multiple groups to collect feedback.

Jean Malek, the district's director of communications and community relations, recently said DeLuga stood out because of her experience and because she offers many of the characteristics identified in the principal profile developed by the district.

"She brings great experience and energy to this position, and I believe the high school will continue to move forward and thrive with her guidance," Superintendent Kelley Gallt said in a news release.
