It's all Chargers in win over Jacobs

The migraines and concussions are gone.

Tommy Newman is ready to wrestle.

The Dundee-Crown senior, who was cleared to practice Wednesday and competed in his first meet of the 2007-2008 campaign Thursday, registered a pin to help lead Dundee-Crown to a 49-21 victory over District 300 rival Jacobs in a Fox Valley Conference match in Algonquin.

Newman wrestling at 215 pounds, pinned Rob Hidding of Jacobs in a quick 1:27.

"It has been three long months," said Newman. "It was just an awesome feeling to be back on the mat and wrestling. I don't have a lot of stamina right now so my strategy was to start aggressive and get a quick pin. It worked out well. Now, I just need to get back to practice and work hard and get my strength and stamina back. "

Dundee-Crown coach Al Zinke is happy to have Newman back.

"It is good to have Tommy back." said Zinke, now just 7 wins from 500 for his career. "He wrestled well. Now, we need to get him a lot of work in practice."

Along with Newman, Gabe Tenorio (119), Jack Lewis (135) and Chris Rust (145) registered pins for the Chargers (14-2, 6-1). Ryan Horcher, competing at 152, was involved in the most exciting matches of the night. Horcher outlasted Jacobs' Tom Olsen 7-5 in overtime.

Cody Muscat (130), Austin Tanner (140) and Billy Cook (285) won by decision. Jeremy Lee (112) won by injury default and Mike Lukowski (189) won by forfeit for the Chargers, who won 10 of 14 matches.

Jacobs (6-10, 2-5), which never led in the match, got pins from Joe Diehl (125) Ed Crosby (160) and Nate Mohlman (171). Crosby pinned D-C's Victor Domich in 1:21 while Mohlman pinned the Chargers' Ronny Dumas in 5:42.

The Golden Eagles' only other win came from Aaron Ryan (103), who defeated Franc Abitua of Dundee-Crown 11-6.

"I thought we were extremely prepared and had good practices leading up to the match," said Jacobs coach Tom Olsen. "We really pushed them and could have won a few more matches. I thought we rose to the occasion and wrestled very well. I thought Aaron Ryan, Joe Diehl, Ed Crosby and Nate Mohlman wrestled very well and Dan Olsen wrestled very well, but lost a tough one to Ryan Horcher, who is a very good wrestler. They will probably wrestle again in the conference championship match. We took a step forward tonight."
