Silent majority says keep chief
It is no secret that the squeaky wheel always gets the ear of elected officials and especially political candidates. But the truth is that the squeaky wheels pale in comparison to the silent majority, who are perfectly content with the status quo.
I am one of the silent majority. I have lived in Gilberts for 30 years and believe that the Gilberts Police Department from Chief Mike Joswick down to the patrol officer perform their jobs well and efficiently. The chief and the officers get out and meet the residents. The long laundry list of things that they do is incredible for the size of their manpower.
Chief Joswick together with his supervisory staff and all the way down to his newest officer plan proactively for not only the growth within the village but also for the increase in crime associated with that growth.
Village President Zirk says that Chief Joswick was good enough when the village was small but not now that the village has grown. I am a retired police officer and know what growth entails. Chief Joswick has been here through all the growth and has responded appropriately to every change.
Because of his leadership and his well-trained personnel, the response to the homicides, arson and other major crimes has been exactly right. This department receives individual and group thank you letters on a constant basis.
Sometimes progress demands change, Village President Zirk, but in this case the Gilberts Police Department personnel, as is, needs no change. Fellow silent majority members now is the time to voice your concerns to our elected officials.
