$9,000 stolen from Irish heritage center
Chicago police are investigating the theft of a safe from the Irish American Heritage Center on the weekend of the organization's yearly festival.
Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli says robbers broke into the center through a window early Sunday morning. Center President Bob McNamara says about $9,000 in cash was taken.
He says many of the center's members feel as if their home has been robbed.
The money in the safe was kept at the center for the organization's annual fundraising festival. McNamara says the event brings the center up to 35 percent of its budget.
