5 hurt in Campton Hills crash on Rt. 38
A three-vehicle crash Friday on Route 38 in Campton Hills sent five people to hospitals and tied up traffic for more than three hours, police said.
Campton Hills Police Sgt. Brian Sawyer said 43-year-old William Gallon of DeKalb was going east near Harley Road just before 10 a.m. when his Pontiac went into the oncoming lane and hit the left rear end of a westbound flatbed tow truck. The car then spun around and struck a Volkswagen convertible also going west.
Police said Gallon and two passengers, identified as Barbara Stephen, 58, and Louquanious Henderson, 32, both of DeKalb, were extricated and taken to hospitals in Aurora and Geneva, where they were listed in fair to good condition late Friday afternoon.
Gallon was ticketed for no insurance and improper lane usage, authorities said. No further citations or charges are expected.
The Volkswagen driver, Lynn Gorecki, 23, of Maple Park, and the tow truck driver, Simon Acevedo, 58, whose hometown was not available, both were taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Sawyer said. Acevedo was treated and released; Gorecki was admitted in fair condition, police said.
The crash shut down Route 38 between Harley and Pouley roads for more than three hours. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting in the investigation.
