Bystanders keep car from rolling onto woman after Elgin crash
About a dozen bystanders steadied a vehicle from rolling over onto a woman's arm after a rollover crash Monday in Elgin.
Two vehicles collided near McClure and Lawrence avenues about 5:26 p.m., Elgin Fire Department Capt. Dave Schmidt said. Two women were trapped in one of the vehicles, which came to rest on its passenger side with one woman's arm hanging out of it.
About a dozen bystanders steadied the vehicle from rolling onto the woman's arm until firefighters arrived and secured the vehicle from rolling again, Schmidt said.
"In this day and age, when everyone drives by and keeps going that was neat to see," Schmidt said.
The women were taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with non life-threatening injuries.
Elgin police are investigating the crash.
