Bond set at $500,000 for Hoffman Estates man charged with battery

Bond was set at $500,000 today for a Hoffman Estates man who authorities say ran over his ex-girlfriend's friend - breaking the man's toes, nose and feet and causing other significant injuries.

Jose Villegas, 22, of 2012 Bayberry Lane, faces charges of felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. The latter charge stems from him allegedly smashing out the windows of his ex-girlfriend's condo before authorities say he ran over the teen friend.

Authorities say Villegas had tracked down his ex at work at about 9 p.m. Thursday.

She saw him, had a friend walk her to her car, and eventually drove to her condo in Hoffman Estates. Villegas showed up, too, prosecutors said, and contacted her on the intercom and smashed her windows to try to get her to come out. She refused.

His ex eventually met up with a friend to seek help, but the duo encountered Villegas again when they returned to the condo, prosecutors said. At that point, they left again, and Villegas - assuming the 18-year-old pal was his ex's new boyfriend - pursued them, authorities said.

When the friend got out of the car to confront Villegas at the corner of Salem Drive and Bode Road, Villegas plowed into him, prosecutors said.

The male victim remains at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, said family members, who were in court. They said they expect him to recover, but said he will need further tests to determine the extent of his head injuries.
