Laesch best choice to change direction
Upcoming primary elections on Feb. 5 will not only narrow down the candidates for the November elections, but in the 14th District, we'll also be choosing candidates for the March 8 special election to replace retired Congressman Dennis Hastert.
I feel the best person for that job is Democrat John Laesch. As a former naval intelligence analyst who served in the Middle East, Laesch intimately understands the importance of securing our country and truly supporting our troops by providing the equipment they need during deployment and medical care they need when they return home.
He will join with other leaders to change the direction of the failed foreign policy supported by Hastert and his Republican party.
Laesch has a strong work ethic and understands the struggles of the dwindling middle class. Current economic, energy, health care and immigration policies have created a huge divide between the haves and have-nots. Laesch will work to lift everyone up to a higher standard of living. He won't support continued tax cuts for the wealthiest, while the middle class carries an unfair proportion of the cost to run our nation.
He will continue to fight for all citizens to have access to dignified, affordable health care. Congressmen, federal employees and Medicare age people are currently covered by successful, single-payer health care programs. We deserve at least the same.
John will work for a first-rate education system to make us more competitive in the world. You won't see him continuing unfunded mandates for failing bumper sticker policies such as No Child Left Behind.
He will join with other leaders in crating a new energy policy, taking us in a new direction, away from dependence on nonrenewable fuels controlled by countries hostile to our nation.
We can no longer afford to stay the course with current policies that only make us less secure while enriching the oil companies who continue to enjoy record profits while we are at war.
