Lindenhurst teen dies in one-car crash

Police continue to investigate a one-car accident that left a 19-year-old Lindenhurst resident dead early Saturday.

James J. Menheer was trying to negotiate a turn at 2:49 a.m. at the corner of Route 132 and Prospect Drive when he slid into a tree, according to a press release from the Lindenhurst Police Department.

Police officials were not available for comment Saturday evening.

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Menheer's cause of death was multiple blunt trauma from the accident. He said speed most likely played a factor in the accident, and that toxicology tests will be performed Monday morning to determine if alcohol played a role.

Police and fire fighters from the Lake Villa/Lindenhurst Fire Protection District responded to the scene of the one-car accident and discovered the car partially on fire.
