Pluck a duck to help Boys and Girls Club
The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin is the annual Duck Pluck.
For this event, 11,000 little rubber ducks can be "adopted" for $5 each and will be put in the Festival Park fountain at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.
Winning ducks are plucked out of the fountain by children at the event for prizes.
The Boys and Girls Club of Elgin commits itself to deepening its impact with each child it encounters. To do this, they focus on three areas of impact: academic improvement, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. More than 350 children are served at three sites every day.
Times are tough, including for many club members and their families. In fact, 32 percent of club members come from homes with an annual household income of $9,000 or less.
While it costs a member only $10 a year to join, it costs the club $338 to meet their needs.
The Boys and Girls Club of Elgin is currently serving more than 1,300 youth throughout the year. The proceeds from the Duck Pluck will help them continue these life-changing programs.
Consider adopting a duck, quack pack or even a flock this year. Just go to www.elginducks.com or call (847) 742-DUCK.
The grand prize is an all-inclusive trip to Puerto Vallarta.
