Gurnee intersection closed after gas main broken reopens

A gas leak caused Gurnee fire officials to shut down Route 41 and Route 132 for about an hour and a half around 11 a.m. Monday. Gurnee firefighters responded to Routes 41 and 132 after a construction crew accidentally drilled through a gas line near the intersection, officials said.

Officials found a six-inch gas line shooting gas about 60 feet into the air, so officials shut down both roads and a local rail line as a precaution while waiting for gas company officials to respond. The village sent out an emergency message to nearby homes asking residents to close their windows and stay indoors. No one was injured.
