Driver's license office in Des Plaines closed after employee tests positive

The Des Plaines driver services facility will be closed until Sept. 4 as a precaution because an employee tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release from the office of Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has been consulted. Employees who work at the office, 1470 Lee St., are being quarantined for 14 days, the news release said, and the building will be sanitized according to CDC guidelines.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, White has extended the expiration dates for driver's licenses/ID cards and license plate stickers to Nov. 1. White encourages people to conduct business - such as renewing license plate stickers, obtaining replacement driver's licenses/ID cards as well as safe driver renewals - online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com whenever possible.

Masks are required inside all offices. And because of social distancing, the number of people allowed inside at one time is limited, so visitors should be prepared to wait outside.
