Artists are the real stars of annual Adler festival

The David Adler Music and Arts Center will hold its annual Festival of the Arts this weekend. Executive Director Dianna Monie tells us what you need to know.

Q. What makes this such a fabulous event?

A. Festival of the Arts brings fine arts and crafts to the Libertyville and surrounding communities that might not otherwise be available.

Q. How long has this event been in existence? How has it changed, and what is new this year?

A. The festival has been ongoing in for 29 years. The biggest change to the event has been the location. The festival was initially held on the grounds of the David Adler Center, but for the past few years has been located in Libertyville's historic Cook Park. Each year new artists are selected by the jury to exhibit at festival.

Q. What's the highlight of the event?

A. The highlight of the event would most definitely be the artists themselves with their unique and diverse works. The festival is a juried show with awards going to six best of categories and best of show.

Q. What kind of activities will appeal to kids and families?

A. There will be an art activity area for children to create art work under the direction of one of the Adler art faculty.

Q. What about adults? What does the event offer them?

A. The event offers adults the opportunity to view and purchase fine arts and crafts from artesians from the surrounding areas as well as across the country. Additionally on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, classical guitarist Brad Conroy will be providing live music.

Q. What kinds of food and beverages will be for sale?

A. There will be water for sale and we would encourage everyone to check out the wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the festival site.

Q. Tell us about the volunteers and organizers who pull this together.

A. Festival of the Arts is produced and organized by the staff and board of directors of the David Adler Music and Arts Center.
