Coroner's jury: Group home drowning accidental

EDWARDSVILLE -- A Madison County coroner's jury says a resident of a group home drowned accidentally after being left alone in a bathtub for about four hours.

Forty-six-year-old Christopher Halley was found dead in the full bathtub on April 26 at the Edwardsville home.

An aide told investigators the man was mildly retarded and typically did not require constant monitoring. But a coroner's report said Halley was epileptic and was prone to seizures, the last known one coming a few months before his death.

There apparently were 14 people living at the home at the time of the drowning.

An Edwardsville police investigator said there were no signs of foul play.

An autopsy report said the death was of drowning due to a seizure.
