Man arrested in deaths of Rockford couple

ROCKFORD -- Police in Rockford have arrested a 24-year-old man wanted in the July 8 bludgeoning deaths of a couple in their 70s.

Police say they arrested Omarrian T. Jones on Thursday after he fell through some acoustic tiles in the ceiling of a business where he was hiding from authorities.

About two dozen officers had been chasing Jones on foot, assisted by all-terrain vehicles, a canine unit and a loaned helicopter.

Deputy Rockford Police Chief Greg Lindmark says Jones was the only suspect in the deaths of 77-year-old Reynato Cardino and his 75-year-old wife, Leticia, and officers had been on his trail since early in the week.

After his capture, Jones was taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
