TCM looks to the stars
TCM looks to stars
Turner Classic Movies cranks up its annual August "Summer Under the Stars" film series, featuring a different Hollywood star each day, starting with Henry Fonda on Saturday. The undeniable high point is "The Grapes of Wrath" at 7 p.m. Silent-movie aficionados can look ahead to Harold Lloyd on Wednesday, including "The Freshman" at 2:45 p.m., but set the DVR for his late collaboration with writer-director Preston Sturges, "The Sin of Harold Diddlebock," at 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
'Skins' game
"Skins," the randy, rowdy British teen series that makes "Gossip Girl" look like "Hannah Montana," returns for a new season with new stars at 8 p.m. Thursday on BBC America. It's written by a staff of young writers to go with the young talent on screen.
Boo-ray for Bollywood
The Independent Film Channel revives the career of Chris Kattan - which I always thought was under a do-not-resuscitate order - when he stars in the three-part miniseries "Bollywood Hero" when it debuts at 9 p.m. Thursday. He's a washed-up star who goes to Bollywood to find work. Fellow "Saturday Night Live" trouper Maya Rudolph is along for the ride, as is Keanu Reeves. Singer-songwriter Michael Penn wrote and produced the script.
Rockin' the 'Cradle'
Angelina Jolie returns as the impossibly busty cyber-adventure goddess Lara Croft in the 2003 sequel "The Cradle of Life." Which only begs the question, "What's not to like?" It's at 8 p.m. today on TNT.
