Batavia's Wilson Street slated for repairs

About three miles of Wilson Street in Batavia will be under construction through at least the end of August for a federally-funded resurfacing project, officials said.

The city has received a little more than $1 million in stimulus funds to repair sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and to repave the street between Raddant and Randall roads. The work is slated to begin Monday.

City Engineer Noel Basquin said the project is tentatively scheduled to end at the end of August, but it could stretch beyond that if the city ends up with leftover funds, which could be used for related work. He said two lanes of traffic should be open the majority of the time, and mail and garbage services will go on as scheduled.

"It's going to be a huge project in the length and size of it," but there should be minimal traffic disruptions, Basquin said.

City officials are asking that vehicles not be parked on Wilson Street once the project begins.
