Aurora woman charged with concealing homicide after DeKalb shooting

An Aurora woman has been charged with concealment of a homicide after the shooting death of a Naperville man Sunday in DeKalb, officials said.

Vanity Garcia, 28, of the 900 block of Symphony Drive, also is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police, according to a news release from the DeKalb Police Department.

She is being held on $250,000 bail in the DeKalb County jail. Her next court date is Jan. 10.

According police, two gun-wielding men tried to rob two residents of the 900 block of West Hillcrest shortly before midnight. During a struggle, one of the victims tried to get control of one of the guns; the victim and the two suspects were shot.

A responding police officer chased a car speeding away from the scene, which eventually stopped on Plank Road in rural Sycamore. Police say Garcia was driving, and two people inside the vehicle had suffered gunshot wounds, the release said.

The victim and two suspects were taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, where one was pronounced dead. DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller identified the man killed as Jeffrey L. Carson, 29, of Naperville, the DeKalb Chronicle reports.
