Possible lightning strike sparks Naperville fire

An apparent lightning strike sparked a fire early Thursday morning that caused an estimated $60,000 damage to a house at 3820 Highknob Circle in Naperville.

No injuries were reported, but officials say the blaze did extensive damage to the home's attic and there was smoke and water damage to the second-floor bedrooms.

The three residents stayed with neighbors for the rest of the night.

Authorities said a resident called at 12:54 a.m. to report the apparent lightning strike and that a second-floor bathroom was on fire. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later to find smoke and fire coming from a hole in the roof.

The fire was brought under control within about 15 minutes, according to Assistant Fire Chief Richard Mikel.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 3 a.m.
