Flags were flying this Memorial Day!

For Veterans Day 2008, it was published in the Nov. 18, 2008 Daily Herald that I counted nine U.S.A. flags over a stretch of four to five blocks (approximately over 100 houses) in my neighborhood. Most of the Daily Herald "online" comments that day from readers were positive.

On Memorial Day 2009, I was pleased to count 33 U.S.A. flags flying in this same area. I continued my count and ended with 80 U.S.A. flags over a nine block area!

Back in November 2008, a reader wrote in and said, "Despite everything that is wrong with the U.S., this is still the greatest country in the world." Another wrote and said "FLY the FLAG - you'll feel good and so will your neighbors!"

Thank you to all who flew their U.S.A. flag this past Memorial Day. It felt good to see so many neighbors flying our U.S.A. flag. I am sure our veterans who saw these signs of appreciation felt good, too.
