Hanover Park teen gets 7 years on stolen gun charges
Possessing a total of 11 stolen pistols, shotguns and rifles added up to a seven-year prison sentence for a Hanover Park teen who pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated possession of stolen firearms, a class X felony that carries a sentence of six to 40 years in prison.
Police arrested 17-year-old Carlos Martinez in October at a home in the 1800 block of Linden Avenue, where he had rented a room only that morning, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shari Chandra.
The homeowners consented to the search, which was part of an ongoing Hanover Park investigation into a residential burglary and a stolen motor vehicle, Chandra said.
Martinez was not implicated in the burglary or the car theft, but was charged with "possessing firearms knowing them to have been stolen," Chandra said.
