McHenry County
• Cody B. Mendola, 18, of the 10000 block of Dennis Avenue, Algonquin, was arrested Friday, May 29, and charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property, reports said. Mendola is accused of stealing jewelry from a home near Algonquin on May 14. His bond is $5,000 and he is due in court on Tuesday, June 9.
Elgin
• A man identified himself as a city worker and threatened to report a person in the 1000 block of Highland Avenue at about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday for not having a permit for residential construction work unless the person gave him $300 the next day, reports said. The man did not show a city ID, and it is unknown whether the man returned Wednesday.
• Melvina S. Jefferson, 20, of the 1000 block of Todd Farm Drive, Elgin, was arrested at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Chicago Street and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, reports said. Police stopped and searched Jefferson after she crossed outside a crosswalk and found four small Baggies of crack cocaine in her pocket, reports said.
• One shot was fired but no injuries reported at about 11:06 p.m. Tuesday after an argument in the 1000 block of Maple Street, reports said. It began when four people went to an apartment door over a disagreement over $20. They eventually left, but one fired a shot in the direction of the apartment. No arrests were made.
• A cat in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue was discovered shot in the shoulder with a pellet gun at about noon on Sunday by its owner, who took it to an animal hospital where it was treated but likely will have to be euthanized, reports said.
• Two GPS devices were stolen from a 2001 Honda Accord and 2003 Chevy Suburban in the 400 block of East Amberside Drive between 9 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, reports said. Both vehicles had broken windows.
• A Lamborghini hood, headlamp and air bag and other car parts were reported stolen at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday from an autoyard called Copart Inc., 1475 Bluff City Blvd., reports said.
• Someone tried to burglarize a home in the 1000 block of Prospect Street at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, reports said. The victim told police a man rang the doorbell several times but the victim did not answer, figuring he was a salesman. Then the victim heard a large thump and the man had broken down the door. The man saw the victim and ran away, reports said. No arrests were made.
• Two cell phones, with a combined value of $500, were stolen between 4:45 and 6:50 p.m. Monday from a 2007 Lexus parked in the 400 block of Commonwealth Avenue, reports said.
• John P. Cook, 42, of the 100 block of Brittany Drive, Streamwood, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Ave., and charged with trespassing, reports said. Cook is forbidden from entering the casino.
• John Berger, 58, of the 7S400 block of Creek Drive, Naperville, was arrested at 12:41 a.m. Tuesday at the Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Ave., and charged with trespassing, reports said. Berger is forbidden from the casino.
