Case closed on lost diamond earring

It's not exactly one murder investigation after another for most suburban police officers.

Sure, arsons and robberies happen, but so do much smaller events - some that aren't even crimes.

This weekend Buffalo Grove police helped a Hoffman Estates woman track down her lost 2-carat diamond earring. The woman, 60, lost the earring while watching a show at the Buffalo Grove High School theater on Saturday night.

She called the police early on Sunday to report the missing earring, said Cmdr. Steve Husak of the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

"We met her at the theater and looked around but didn't find anything," Husak said.

After checking under chairs and everywhere near her seat, police talked to the school's maintenance staff who said the theater had been vacuumed on Saturday night.

The crew still had the vacuum bag. So the woman took it home and was able to fish out her earring, Husak said.

"We're here to help the community," he said. "That means we do a wide variety of things and this is just one example. I'm glad we were able to help her out."

All in a day's work.
