Shelter offers adoption special for cats
Anderson Animal Shelter is celebrating Adopt-A-Cat Month this June by offering a $75 cat and kitten adoption special. It's the perfect time to promote cat adoptions because the spring and summer months typically bring a surge of cats to the nation's shelters.
"When cats are not neutered or spayed, they reproduce easily, and spring and summer are the seasons when cats are most active, resulting in more kittens showing up at our doors," says Michelle Groeper, director of operations.
"We encourage people to visit and meet all the great cats we have here. They're all looking for loving, permanent homes."
All adoptions include the cat's spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations, a free vet wellness check, a free bag of food, 30 days of pet insurance, collar with tags and a carrying box.
"The normal adoption fee is $155, so with the $75 special this month, we're hoping families adopt cats or kittens in pairs. It can be beneficial to adopt more than one cat or kitten, especially if the pets will be left alone for long periods while you are gone," Groeper said.
"Not all cats enjoy companionship, but many are very social with members of their own species. Young kittens need to engage in vigorous play for several hours a day, and another pet can help get the job done."
The shelter, 1000 S. LaFox (Route 31) in South Elgin, has adoption hours every day except for Wednesdays. For details about the shelter and adoption programs, visit www.andersonanimalshelter.org or call (847) 697-2880.
