St. Charles burglar caught in the act

St. Charles residents arrived home just in time last Thursday to find a man burglarizing their apartment. And then, in a moment of courage, they decided to do something about it.

The resident observed who police identified as Jason K. Edwards, 28, of the 1900 block of Wessel Court in St. Charles, leaving the apartment after apparently forcing his way in through the front door while no one was home. With the help of a friend, the pair fought the burglar, took him down and held him until police could arrive after being called. Police came to the scene, in the 2000 block of Wessel Court, and found several items in Edwards' pockets that had been taken from the apartment, reports said. Police also observed damage to the front door of the apartment, apparently caused by the burglar while gaining access.

Edwards was charged with one count of residential burglary. His bond was set at $75,000. Edwards was not able to post the bond and remained in Kane County jail as of Monday afternoon.
