Man clocked at 96 in 40 mph zone said he needed to use bathroom

Anuj K. Shahi really, really had to use the bathroom.

Which was why, the 36-year-old Brookfield man told Naperville police, he was going really, really fast about 1:24 p.m. Wednesday along westbound Diehl Road approaching Fisher Drive.

So fast, in fact, that an officer shooting radar clocked Shahi and his 2007 Lexus Ls350 traveling 96 mph in a 40 mph zone.

When police stopped Shahi, Cmdr. Mike Anders said Thursday, the motorist said he "had to use the bathroom very badly."

Shahi, of 4417 Eberly Ave., was charged with a Class A misdemeanor count of speeding and released after posting his driver's license at the police department's detention facility.

Ironically, Anders said, Shahi didn't use the facilities when he arrived at the Naperville lockup.

"When we got him to the jail, he no longer needed it," Anders said. "We provide a very nice bathroom in our jail; it's very well taken care of."
