Wie longshot to make Solheim Cup roster

If Michelle Wie's name is to be one of a dozen on U.S. captain Beth Daniel's Solheim Cup roster next week, she may need to need to pull off a miracle at Royal Lytham and St. Annes during the Women's British Open.

That's because Wie tied for 23rd at 5-under over the weekend in the Evian Masters but failed to collect any points in her bid for a place on the United States team for next month's Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. She sits just outside the top-15 in points and may have to hope to be one of Daniel's two captain's picks.

Wie had 3 birdies on the last four holes to salvage her final round at the Evian Masters, but finished just out of the top 20 to miss earning Solheim Cup points.

She gets another chance, this weekend at the British Open, where points count double.

"I think for next week, my tee shots feel good; I've got to get that working," Wie said after the final round at the Evian. "Get that groove back."

It's been tough to find in what has been an up-and-down year for Wie.

"I've had a couple good top-5 finishes, but nothing really stands out," she said. "I guess I had a good tournament in Hawaii and a couple good spurts here and there.

"The thing that was the most recent was Jamie Farr. The last 10 holes were really where I really got things together. It's just a good sign of what can happen."

She'll need more than signs at the British Open if she is to achieve her ultimate goal - representing the U.S. at the Solheim Cup.

"The British Open next week, and then hopefully, cross my fingers, I can play really well next week and get enough points to play in the Solheim Cup," Wie said. "That is a really big goal for me."
