Teacher to discuss teens at scholarship lunch

The Northern Fox Valley Chapter of Women in Management presents Elgin High School teacher Deb Perryman with her presentation "The Most Misunderstood Creature in North America ... The American Teenager" and the WIM annual scholarship presentations on Thursday, June 11, at the Elgin Country Club, Weld Road, Elgin. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon and program at noon. Meetings adjourn promptly at 1:30 p.m. Cost for members is $20 and non members, $30. Perryman has been teaching at Elgin High School since 1994, where she has built and managed an environmental program considered one of the best in the nation. She was most recently recognized as the "2009 Kane County Educator of the Year."

The Northern Fox Valley Chapter of Women in Management will also present two $1,000 Susan Wyatt Memorial Scholarships to: Michelle M. Gill of Marengo and Sofia Hedburg of Algonquin.

Gill is seeking a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in business management and a minor in finance. She attends Columbia College in Elgin, Crystal Lake. Gill plans to graduate in May 2010, the same year her oldest daughter graduates from high school. She is a working mother of four, who has rebuilt her life after having her home burn to the ground in 2005. Her honors are: Columbia College dean's list March 2009; Who's Who Women in Business. She has completed volunteer work on behalf of the Woodstock Food Pantry, and as a Marengo Park District and Round Lake area soccer coach.

Hedburg currently attends American Intercontinental University seeking a bachelor in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She is a married mother of two. Her son currently attends Elgin Community College and her daughter is still in high school. She is currently an account executive for Reily Graphic Services Inc. in Elgin and worked in a similar position at the Courier News in Elgin for many years. Her honors include dean's list at AIU, salesperson of the year for the Courier News, and has been nominated for an Elgin Image Award. She volunteers for West Ridge Community Church, Fiesta Salsa, Elgin and Northern Kane County chambers of commerce and the Sons of Italy Service Club. For information, visit www.wimonline.org.
