Prosecutors say escrow company endangered homeowners
The Illinois Attorney General's office filed suit Tuesday against a Chicago escrow company, charging it failed to pay property taxes on houses and left owners in danger of losing their homes. American Escrow LLC closed in March and failed to pay $154,000 in taxes for 69 homes in Illinois, and half a million dollars for about 1,000 customers nationwide. The victims included homeowners in Des Plaines, Wheeling, Hanover Park, Carpentersville, Dundee, Waukegan, Round Lake Beach and Winthrop Harbor. If American Escrow can't pay, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation will provide restitution. To make a claim, see idfpr.com.
