Barrington shows support for troops

On Flag Day, June 14, we joined with some adult volunteers and Boy Scouts from Troop 927 at the Jewel/Osco Store in Barrington. We have a son (Cameron - a 2008 BHS graduate) who is a Marine lance corporal stationed in southern Afghanistan, in the Helmand Province.

His platoon is there along with major elements of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. This unit represents the "surge" that President Obama recently ordered.

We were asking folks who were shopping that day to purchase items that we could send to our son's platoon, currently based at Camp Leatherneck. We handed out lists of items (by aisle) to the shoppers to help them select products which could be safely shipped and which are sorely needed. We also asked for cash donations toward the shipping costs as well.

We were absolutely amazed at the incredible generosity that the Barrington citizenry demonstrated that day! We collected enough personal hygiene, foot care products, battery operated fans, books, snacks, games and much more to supply our son's entire platoon of 39 Marines!

We are very thankful to live among such wonderful people who care so much for our boys on the front lines. And we also want to thank the Jewel/Osco Store Supervisors Vickie and Maureen for the gracious support of our collection project that day.

Thank you, generous citizens of Barrington. Thank you, adult volunteers and the scouts from Troop 927. In about two weeks our boys should be getting some very welcome surprises in the mail.
