Why move graduations out of Kane County?
For the second year in a row, School District 303 had both St. Charles North and East graduations at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. While I do not know the cost of these events, I'm guessing it's probably a bit more than having them at the high schools. The cost is not my main concern; my concern is where the money is being spent.
If the residents of Kane County have been paying attention, the county is having a difficult time with their budget.
At a time when Kane County could use all the sales tax dollars generated by these graduations by supporting local business, the school district takes these events into another county, thus no sales tax dollars for Kane County. One would think the school district would support their county and the taxpayers who pay for the schools.
Maybe the school district is counting on the tax dollars from the sale of gasoline, driving the extra 35 miles to the Sears Centre.
I realize having graduation at the high schools one must contend with weather, limited seating and parking; but in a time of limited financial resources we all must look at being fiscally responsible, and the school district should be a fiscally responsible leader.
Next year may I suggest the school district keep the graduation local - in Kane County.
