The veggies are back at Arlington Heights Farmers Market

The Arlington Heights Farmers Market opened its ninth season June 20 and will run every Saturday through Oct. 24 on Eastman Street between Arlington Heights Road and Evergreen.

Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The market has continued to grow over the years and now has over 20 vendors from Illinois as well as Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana.

In addition to fresh produce, seasonal fruit, plants, cut flowers, breads, French pastries, cheeses, preserves, kettle corn and the like, this year the market has added cheesecakes, dry pastas, sauces, focaccias and cookies, mushrooms and fruit butters.

And, of course, the ever popular knife sharpener returns.

By shopping the market, Arlington Heights residents not only support farming and farming families, but they also are supporting the Arlington Heights community.

The market is self-funded, meaning that advertising, signs and promotions are paid out of fees charged to vendors.

Excess funds at the end of each year are donated to area nonprofits like Dollars for Scholars, the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, Journeys from PADS to Hope, Faith Community Homes, the Arlington Heights Park District Foundation and the village's Community Emergency Fund.

Free parking is available in the Evergreen garage adjacent to the market.
