Kaneland took the easy way out

I was disappointed and dismayed to read in a recent Daily Herald that the Kaneland school district "cut a deal" with one of their teachers concerning allegations of inappropriate conduct.

While I acknowledge that we don't have all of the details to make a final call, I know enough about the system to question the route that was taken.

When we take an oath of office to perform our duties it includes protecting our students both present and future, even if we have to make difficult decisions. I am all for not having to subject kids to any more trauma than they may have already endured. But we have to consider the greater good.

There were other avenues available that could have been pursued which may have produced a different result. Kaneland may have gotten rid of an immediate problem, but it leaves the rest of the kids in our area and perhaps in another community at possible risk.

I implore all officials, whether local or beyond to perform the job you were elected to do and not take the easy way out.
