Man pleads guilty in crash that killed 2

EDWARDSVILLE -- A 29-year-old Caseyville man accused of driving drunk when his car hit and killed a southern Illinois man and his pregnant girlfriend has pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless homicide.

Shaun Myers entered the pleas Monday as part of a plea bargain. Authorities say Myers hit 18-year-old Mary Drayton and her 30-year-old boyfriend Jerimiah Phelps on Nov. 12, 2007, as they were walking in Granite City, where they lived.

Myers also pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He had originally been charged with more than eight felony charges. Members of Drayton's family said they were upset with the plea. Prosecutors declined comment.

Myers is to be sentenced later. He faces civil lawsuits from family members of both victims.
